Mighty Dungeons is plenty of fun, but it's lacking polish - so much so that some gamers will hurl aside their magic swords in fury after a couple of levels.
The boardgame-style presentation and first-person fights are unique enough, though, that a lot of gamers will be able to overlook the flaws. At least it isn't yet another samey roguelike.
You explore maps in a top-down view (arriving via a quest hub, with different dungeons offering standard fetch and kill quests). Once you start fighting, you face off against animated enemies with a menu of spells, attacks and potions. It's colourful, varied, and a lot more interesting to play than many of the indie RPGs on the app store - and the board-game-style presentation will keep old-school RPG fans hooked.
It's just a pity it all feels a little unfinished. The translation (from French) is a bit garbled, and there's not much in the way of explanation of what statistics mean. Progression is a bit lumpy, too - it's often far too easy, and then inexplicably hard, and there's not much in the way of new skills for your characters, beyond looting more and more magic swords and potions...
Not the most finished game as it stands, but the board-game-style presentation is a good look, and there's a lot of swords-and-sorcery fun to be had before the game's flaws really start to raise your blood pressure...
